# Claude Code 2.1.305 lets Linux sandboxes create user namespaces

> Claude Code 2.1.305 lets Linux sandboxes spawn user namespaces and rechecks a lifted usage cap during unattended retry, fixing a 2.1.304 failure.

Claude Code 2.1.305, published on October 20, 2026, adds `sandbox.allowNestedUserNamespaces` so sandboxed commands on Linux can create user namespaces. The release notes name Chromium and rootless podman, and they state the cost in the same sentence: this "lets them get around the sandbox's file protections."

That warning is the vendor's own. The setting is what lets those sandboxed commands create user namespaces, and the notes do not describe it as a hardening change. Practitioners who rely on the sandbox's file protections should treat turning it on as accepting that stated exception. The changelog names the workloads and the consequence; it does not offer a narrower file mode.

The same release adds `CLAUDE_CODE_RETRY_WATCHDOG_USAGE_LIMIT_RECHECK_MS` for unattended retry mode (`CLAUDE_CODE_RETRY_WATCHDOG`). The interval makes that mode notice a usage limit that was lifted before its reset.

It also fixes a 2.1.304 regression in which every request failed on Vertex, Bedrock, and other providers when the endpoint or a gateway rejected tool search, including gateways with ToolSearch disallowed or left out of `--tools`. Claude Code now retries those requests without tool search.

Other fixes in the tag:

- `/effort` and `/autocompact` settings now apply when the model name differs from a `modelOverrides` value by letter case or a `[1m]` tag.
- New worktrees in a bare repository no longer sometimes start from local HEAD instead of the default branch, and unchanged subagent worktrees are cleaned up in cases where they were left behind.
- Bash commands on a full disk now say the disk is full and that nothing ran, instead of failing with a raw `ENOSPC` file path.
- An MCP server passed by a cloud session or by the SDK's `setMcpServers` is no longer replaced later in the session by a same-named server from local settings.

The tag also includes further fixes for the self-hosted runner, VS Code, cloud sessions, Claude Tag, and Code Review.

Read the v2.1.305 release notes before you enable nested user namespaces, and decide from the file-protection warning whether Chromium or rootless podman is worth that cost. If you run unattended retries, or you send Claude Code through Vertex, Bedrock, or a gateway, check the watchdog recheck and the tool-search retry in the same notes.
