# ClaudeDevs: the desktop app is now better for lots of sessions side by side

ClaudeDevs said on October 14, 2026 that the team has been working on making the Claude Code desktop app great for running lots of sessions side by side. It is now much quicker to start sessions, easier to split work across a few, and you can always see what each of them is doing.

The desktop quickstart shows how a Code session starts. The app gives Claude Code a graphical interface: you ask Claude to work on a folder and review changes without a terminal. The Code tab is the interactive assistant with direct access to local files. It requires a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise subscription, and you do not need a separate Node.js or CLI install to use it.

A session is a conversation with Claude about your code. Each session tracks its own context and changes. Before you send a task, you choose an environment:

- **Local** runs Claude on your machine, using your files directly.
- **Cloud** runs a session that continues even if you close the app.
- **SSH** connects to a remote machine, such as your own servers, cloud VMs, or dev containers. Desktop installs Claude Code on that machine automatically the first time you connect. A running task can keep going while Desktop is disconnected, but with a Claude account it can stop when sign-in expires.
- **WSL**, on Windows, runs the session inside a WSL 2 distribution. Claude Code, tools, and git execute on the Linux side with native paths.

For more than one task, the quickstart says to open parallel sessions from the sidebar, optionally each in its own Git worktree. The tasks pane is where you watch the subagents and background commands a session has running. A side chat asks a question without derailing the main thread. Long-running work can be sent to the cloud so it continues if you close the app, and a session you already started can move there if it takes longer than expected.

The October 14 post claims speed, splitting, and status. Separately, the quickstart documents environments, parallel sessions from the sidebar, optional Git worktrees, the tasks pane, and side chat.

Start in the Code tab on a small project you know. Open a second session from the sidebar when the next task should stand on its own, and use a Git worktree if those files should stay separate. The desktop quickstart covers install, sign-in, and that first session.
