# Coinbase MCP adds US stock trading for agents

Coinbase Developer Platform said on September 22, 2026 that agents can now trade stocks through Coinbase for Agents. The post put equities on the same list as crypto and derivatives: "Crypto. Derivatives. And now 6,000+ stocks."

CEO Brian Armstrong pointed at the connector, not a new product: "Trade stocks through the Coinbase MCP." He added, "We're bringing the everything exchange to agents."

Coinbase for Agents is the Advanced Trade path for AI apps — a remote MCP at `https://agents.coinbase.com/mcp` plus a local CLI. Docs currently list spot crypto (900+ pairs), US derivatives (CFM dated futures), and eligible US stocks, along with portfolio tools. Equities use `TICKER-QUOTE` product IDs such as `AAPL-USD` or `AAPL-USDC`. Discover tickers with the product tools. Orders trade regular market hours by default; check the live tool schema for sessions, order types, and sizing. Equity ticker, order-book, and preview support should not be assumed from a successful product lookup.

Need data on those names? Coinbase says x402 lets agents pay for live market data mid-task from a Coinbase USDC balance, with no separate subscription. The MCP docs describe per-request payments for a curated catalog of trading data and research — including stock data — settled in USDC on Base from the retail Coinbase balance. Payments are capped at 5 USDC each. Discovery is free. Authorizing research does not authorize a trade.

Coinbase MCP is the trading tool in the agent lineup. Wallet MCP is for a self-custodial Coinbase Wallet; CDP MCP is for builders on the CDP APIs. On Coinbase MCP, the approval model is yours: the agent can operate autonomously or with your approval. Scope access to a dedicated Advanced portfolio and fund it with only what you are willing to risk. Coinbase's disclaimer is explicit: agents can misinterpret instructions, and you are responsible for reviewing and authorizing trades, transfers, and account changes.
