# Daybreak Red is available to eligible customers in AWS GovCloud (US-East)

> Approved customers can use Daybreak Red's GPT-5.6 Cyber in AWS GovCloud (US-East) on Bedrock; AWS had already posted it Oct. 30.

Eligible customers can run OpenAI's Daybreak Red on Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud (US-East). Amazon Web Services posted that availability on October 30, 2026. It is a regional access expansion, not a new model. The Bedrock model card dates Daybreak Red: GPT-5.6 Cyber to August 12, 2026, marks the lifecycle active, and says end of life is no sooner than August 12, 2027, with a legacy period of at least six months.

## What the October 30 post says

AWS places Daybreak Red in OpenAI's Daybreak cyber defense initiative. The post says GPT-5.6 Cyber is built for authorized vulnerability research, exploit reproduction, and mitigation development. It says verified defenders get more room to investigate complex security problems, with fewer refusals for that work and stronger identity verification, monitoring, and access controls. The model card lists those same use cases. Neither page publishes step-by-step procedures for that work.

The post says Daybreak Red runs on Bedrock's next-generation inference engine, with zero-operator access enforced at the chip. Inference data is not used to train models, and customers do not need to share Daybreak Red data with OpenAI.

GovCloud (US-East) is not the only listed region. AWS also lists US East (Ohio). In-region inference is marked supported for `us-east-2` (Ohio) and `us-gov-east-1` (AWS GovCloud (US-East)). Geo and global cross-region inference are marked not supported in both.

## Access, calls, and price

Access is limited to eligible customers. The what's-new post requires enrollment in Daybreak access from OpenAI. The model card requires enrollment in Trusted Access for Cyber from OpenAI. Both say to contact OpenAI or an AWS account team about eligibility, then work with the AWS account team to enable access after approval.

Fine-tuning is not supported. The context window is 1,050,000 tokens. Text and image are supported inputs; output is text. Calls use the `bedrock-mantle` endpoint and model ID `openai.gpt-5.6-cyber`. The documented in-region URL pattern is `https://bedrock-mantle.{region}.api.aws/openai/v1`. Responses and Chat Completions are supported on that endpoint. The `bedrock-runtime` endpoint is not supported, and neither are Messages, Converse, or Invoke. Only the Standard service tier is supported.

For short context, 272,000 input tokens or fewer, in-region prices are in USD per million tokens. Commercial rates are $13.75 input and $82.50 output. GovCloud (US-East) rates are $16.875 input and $101.25 output. AWS says commercial in-region prices include a 10 percent fee over OpenAI rates, and that customers do not add that fee. The card also lists 30-minute cache-write and cache-read rates. That pricing section does not show a long-context table.

Read the October 30 what's-new post and the Daybreak Red model card, then contact OpenAI or your AWS account team about Daybreak eligibility. Bedrock access follows that approval.
