# GPT-6 reaches ChatGPT Chat with Intelligent UI, not Codex

> GPT-6 Sol and Luna roll into ChatGPT Chat with charts, forms, and tools. Work and Codex models stay put, and the speed claims are OpenAI's own.

OpenAI is putting GPT-6 into ChatGPT's Chat tab, and the visible change is the shape of the answer. On October 7, 2026, the company said GPT-6 with Intelligent UI was starting to roll out globally to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise in the Chat tab. Free and Go were set to begin the next day, which The Verge reported as Thursday. Enterprise availability depends on workplace admin settings.

The split is by Chat plan. Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise get GPT-6 Sol. Free and Go get GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI says both are tuned for everyday conversation. The same post draws a hard line around the release: it applies to the Chat experience, and the models powering Work and Codex are not changing. A new interactive reply in Chat is not a Work or Codex model swap.

## Interfaces inside the reply

Intelligent UI is the capability OpenAI says it trained into GPT-6 for this Chat release. The model composes text, visuals, and interactive elements, and picks the mix from the question. Responses can include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts, and tools used in the conversation. A comparison might sit side by side. An explanation might be a diagram. If plain text is the useful answer, ChatGPT can give that instead.

OpenAI's samples stay on everyday asks. A seven-speed bicycle breakdown becomes a diagram with controls for frame, wheels, drivetrain, brakes, and cockpit. A Sunday roast plan includes a guest-count control that recalculates shopping quantities. Ask for a tool and the thread can hold one: a savings calculator, a bill splitter, or a game. The Verge independently reported the Chat rollout and the interactive format, including the bicycle diagram, and described further OpenAI examples such as a Mahjong lesson with scrollable tile categories and in-line tools like a bill splitter.

The mechanism OpenAI describes is a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that processes the interface as the model generates it. The library is meant to keep a familiar design on web and mobile while the model decides how the pieces fit. The compiler lets the interface appear progressively, without waiting for the full response. OpenAI says training covered layout, visuals, and when not to add interaction, with checks for clarity, usefulness, and completeness. It also says design judgment still has work ahead.

## Speed figures from OpenAI's tests

OpenAI says ChatGPT can begin answering while it continues to think. With earlier reasoning models, users waited until thinking finished. GPT-6, the company says, was trained to account for waiting time and to build an answer across partial responses, adding information without filler and keeping the full answer as cohesive and factual as one written at once.

The timings are internal. In an evaluation of high-value, everyday agentic tasks, OpenAI says GPT-6 Extra High can begin answering in the same amount of time as GPT-5.6 Medium while scoring better overall than GPT-5.6 Extra High. For questions that need web search, it says GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant. It also says GPT-6 is better at deciding when to look something up, and that on difficult problems in an internal evaluation it correctly addressed the key aspect of the question more often than GPT-5.6. The Verge reported the company's claims of better search and quicker partial answers. It did not publish its own clock.

## What did not move

OpenAI says adversarial testing found stronger resistance to attempts to bypass safety training, particularly attacks that adapt across multiple turns. It says training was updated against high-risk misuse involving cyberattacks, biological threats, and violence, and that the model uses conversation history so some risks are not judged from a single prompt. Relative to GPT-5.6 Sol, it says GPT-6 is clearer about the limits of its own capabilities, including when it lacks the information or tools to answer, building on safety work from Astra. Detail sits in the October system card the post links. The Verge noted the resistance claim; the measurements are OpenAI's.

OpenAI frames the rollout against more than 1.2 billion people it says use ChatGPT each week. It says the first GPT-6 models, introduced last month, were for paid customers. This release is the broader Chat step: Luna on Free and Go.

If you want to see the format, open the Chat tab and ask for something that usually comes back as a list, such as a comparison, a scaled plan, or a small calculator, and watch whether controls appear before the reply is finished. If you run agents on Work or Codex, do not retune that harness on the basis of this Chat rollout. OpenAI's October 7 post is the scope note; The Verge's report is the outside account of the interactive answers.
