# Meta opens Muse in Japan and says it does not share chats or VM data with its ad systems

> Meta opened personal agent Muse in Japan on Oct. 23, the first market outside North America, with Mercari, Money Forward ME, and Ticket Pia still planned. Meta says the agent cannot see passwords or payment methods and does not share chats or VM data with its ad systems.

Meta started offering its personal AI agent Muse in Japan on October 23, 2026 (JST). The company's Japanese newsroom post calls Japan the first market outside North America, where Muse launched in September, and says it is available on iOS, Android, and muse.ai.

Muse is meant to take a stated task or a larger goal, build a plan, and carry the work forward, including opening a browser and filling forms. Work that takes time can continue after the app is closed. The agent notifies the user when something changes or when it needs approval to send email or buy something.

What Meta says is available now is not the same as the Japan partnerships it says it is still advancing. The post lists connectors such as Gmail, Google Calendar, and Instagram, plus global services including Stripe, Shopify, Trip.com, Agoda, and Klook for shopping and travel. Alongside the launch, Meta said it will proceed with partnerships with Mercari, Money Forward ME, and Ticket Pia. ITmedia's same-day report draws that line explicitly: services such as Gmail are already connected, while the three Japanese services are planned. Meta Japan representative director 味澤将宏 said the company will keep advancing those domestic partnerships.

Many basic features are free, and subscription plans are available. Neither post publishes yen prices.

On controls, Meta says each user gets an isolated cloud environment, Muse Secure VM, for connected-service data and credentials. An independent Sentinel agent manages internet access. Muse cannot see passwords or payment methods, asks before email is sent or a purchase is made, and lets users review actions already taken and actions still planned. Users choose apps and access scope, can disconnect, and can opt out of having conversations used to train Meta's models. The post also says Muse does not share conversations or virtual-machine data with Meta's advertising systems.

That data rule is narrower than later reporting that the product will stay ad-free. Nikkei Asia's October 24 lead says Meta says Muse will stay ad-free. The Japanese Nikkei article's visible opening says the company will monetize the international push, starting in Japan, with non-ad means such as paid plans, and that chief AI officer Alexandr Wang answered the paper's questions. The rest of that Japanese interview is behind a member wall, so the non-ad monetization line stays at the visible lead and should not be read as Meta's ad-system rule.

Meta Connect features — an advanced voice mode, Muse Realtime Avatar, and a Muse email address — await a separate Japan announcement.

Read Meta's Japanese newsroom post, then open Muse on iOS, Android, or muse.ai and check which connectors the app actually offers before assuming the Mercari, Money Forward ME, or Ticket Pia links are live.
