# Meta publishes the Muse Glimmer 30B technical report

> Meta’s Oct. 19 research page posts the Muse Glimmer 30B paper for local agent work. A separate weights introduction already treats the model as released.

Meta has posted the technical report for Muse Glimmer 30B. Treat the October pages as a paper record for an on-device agent model, not as a new weights drop.

## A paper posting, not a launch

Meta’s research publications page is dated October 19, 2026. It lists “Muse Glimmer 30B: An On-Device Agentic Model,” names Arxiv as publisher, and links a paper download. The arXiv record, 2610.24628, was submitted on October 17, 2026 — version 1 at 11:05:21 UTC — under Computation and Language, with Artificial Intelligence as a second subject. The PDF is credited to Arash Ebrahim Abtahizadeh and 311 other authors. Submission history names Tatiana Shavrina as the sender. Meta’s page byline is “Muse Glimmer team,” with reinforcement learning and natural language processing as topics.

The fetched text of those pages is the abstract. It describes an open-source 30B-parameter causal language model with a perception encoder, built for autonomous agentic tasks on consumer hardware. The model is said to combine multi-step reasoning, reliable tool use, and failure recovery; to run locally without cloud infrastructure; to take text and image inputs and produce text; and to have been trained on data from over a hundred languages. It is quantized to approximately 4-bit precision for single-GPU inference. Meta claims state of the art for that size class versus Gemma4-31B and Qwen3.6-27B on tool use, multi-step planning, and agentic task completion. Those comparisons are Meta’s. The abstract says the model is released under the Apache 2.0 license. It also opens with “We introduce,” which is paper convention, not evidence that the weights arrived in October.

## What the weights post already covers

A separate Meta research blog introduces Muse Glimmer as the next model from Meta Superintelligence Labs and says the weights are being open-sourced under Apache 2.0. It describes a 30-billion-parameter model for always-on local agent workflows, small enough to run on a Mac or PC with a single consumer GPU, covering local agents, function calling, local coding, and LLM-as-a-judge evaluation. The fetched blog text has no dateline, so the announcement date is unknown from this copy. The post points readers to a Hugging Face download and developer documentation. In the text fetched here, it does not present the October arXiv abstract as the release.

Distillation is in that blog, not in the abstract. Pre-training used Muse Spark’s outputs with logit distillation and a similar data mix to the teacher. Mid-training used longer-context, more agent-heavy data with richer reasoning traces, plus organic data. Post-training combined supervised fine-tuning with on-policy distillation and reinforcement learning across general, reasoning, coding, and agentic domains. Meta says the model was evaluated under its Advanced AI Scaling Framework and assessed for open-weight release.

The same post is where the local-hardware numbers live. Full precision would need over 55 GB. About 4-bit quantization shrinks the language model to under 20 GB, leaving room for the KV cache, the perception encoder, and a speculative-decoding drafter inside a 24 GB or 32 GB envelope. Meta says the compression showed minimal to no degradation on agentic tasks. A DFlash-based drafter proposes blocks of tokens for the main model to verify. On a K-Quant-17GB build with the quantized drafter, the chart text reports decode speedups of 3.1 times on an RTX 5090, 1.8 times on an M5 Max, and 1.5 times on an M4 Max. Scores in the comparison tables are images in this fetch, so they are not repeated. The prose does name full-task benchmarks — DeepSearch QA, MCP-Atlas, τ-Bench, and SWE-Bench — without numbers.

Read the PDF from the October 19 publication page or from arXiv:2610.24628 if you want the written record, and keep the size-class claims labeled as Meta’s. If you are deciding whether to run the model, start with the weights introduction: that is where distillation from Muse Spark, the memory envelope, and the download path are described.
