# OpenAI models and Codex are coming to Google Cloud

> GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, and GPT-6 Luna are rolling out in private preview to select enterprises on Google Cloud Model Garden. Codex CLI and Desktop can connect to the Gemini platform for inference now; Model Garden general availability, including Codex workflows, is planned in the coming weeks.

OpenAI and Google Cloud said on October 21, 2026 that they are partnering to bring OpenAI’s frontier models and Codex agentic workflows into Google Cloud’s Model Garden. Customers will be able to purchase the models through Google Cloud Marketplace and draw those purchases down against existing Google Cloud spend commitments. The posts are about where the models can be bought and run.

Private preview and general availability are not the same window. Google Cloud says GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, and GPT-6 Luna are rolling out now in private preview to select enterprise customers, with more coming soon. OpenAI says general availability is planned in the coming weeks. Reuters, reporting the same day, summarized the companies as making the frontier models and the Codex coding agent available through Google Cloud in the coming weeks.

Google Cloud describes the three models by workload:

- **GPT-6 Astra** is designed for demanding work across coding, computer use, professional tasks, and scientific research.
- **GPT-6.1 Sol** is near-Astra intelligence at lower cost across agentic coding, computer use, and professional work.
- **GPT-6 Luna** is a fast, cost-efficient model for everyday work at scale.

Google says teams can select and swap models on performance, latency, and cost without architectural lock-in or separate vendor contracts.

What is available now is narrower than the partnership headline. Starting today, Google says, customers can build with these models through its APIs and connect local Codex CLI and Desktop workflows directly to the Gemini platform for inference. Still later: OpenAI says the models will soon be available in Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent. Google Cloud says they are coming soon in Gemini for business and Google Antigravity. Neither company describes those surfaces as live.

On billing, Google says Marketplace transactions appear on a single Google Cloud invoice, draw down existing cloud commitments, and count toward Flexible Savings Plans across model providers. OpenAI says the integration will pair its models with Google Cloud access controls, centralized data governance, and high-performance infrastructure, including for regulated industries that need control over who can access sensitive data and how it is used.

Google’s data claims include limits that are not all live. Prompts, context, and outputs are said to remain inside a designated data perimeter and are never used to train foundation models. Zero Data Retention options are coming soon. The models run on dedicated Google Cloud infrastructure, with Confidential Compute coming soon, and queries are routed through isolated gateways so third-party providers have no unauthorized access to the customer’s environment. Google also describes authenticated identity, VPC Service Controls, and unified audit logging for agent and model interactions.

Google Cloud says it is now the only hyperscale cloud offering all three leading closed-source LLMs, alongside more than 200 first-party, third-party, and open models. That post does not name the three. OpenAI says Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner. Reuters reports that OpenAI’s exclusive distribution arrangement with Microsoft expired in April, after which OpenAI expanded distribution to Amazon Web Services and now to Google Cloud. Reuters also says Google struck a deal with OpenAI last year to supply more computing capacity, and that cloud providers usually take a cut of platform sales. No rate for this deal is stated.

Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s president and co-founder, called the partnership “an important step in making our most capable models and Codex available where customers are already building.” Thomas Kurian, Google Cloud’s chief executive, said the company is “focused on giving customers a broad selection of models, including those from OpenAI, so they can choose the right model for any given job, helping to deliver optimal quality and lower costs.”

If this is on your evaluation list, request access through the interest forms linked from the October 21 OpenAI and Google Cloud posts, and keep private preview separate from the general availability OpenAI still places in the coming weeks. The near-term check is Codex CLI and Desktop inference on the Gemini platform; Antigravity and the Gemini surfaces are the items both companies still mark as soon.
