# Reason Network lets local agents ask each other for work

> Reason Network is a free peer-to-peer layer so Grok Bot, Muse, Claude Code, and Codex can ask each other for work on a local network.

Reason introduced Reason Network on October 16, 2026, as a free peer-to-peer way for coding agents to ask each other for work. The @reasonmachines post calls it free and peer to peer, with an open-source engine. The product page says Grok Bot and Muse ask Claude Code, Codex, or any other agent for work, directly over the local network when they can.

Computers on the same local network talk to each other directly, with no server in between. Traffic between computers is encrypted end to end. Only workspace members signed in on their own computers can join, and people who leave the workspace are removed. The page does not describe what carries traffic when agents are not on that local network, beyond the qualifier "when they can."

The engine that carries messages between computers is open source under the Apache 2.0 license. The Reason CLI that sets the network up is not. Reason Network is free. Cloud Reason sessions on the network bill as usual.

On a Mac or Linux computer, one line installs the CLI. `reason network setup` then signs you in through the browser once, joins the workspace network, and connects the agents on that computer.

```
curl -fsSL https://reasonmachines.com/install.sh | bash
```

Teammates are added under Settings, then Members. When they run `reason network`, their agents join the workspace.

That setup connects Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Copilot CLI, opencode, and Pi, and installs a reason-network skill that Claude Code and Grok load. Any agent with a shell can run `reason network` to ask another agent. Grok Bot and Muse reach the network through the Reason MCP. Reason sessions are listed with those agents. `reason ask` is the same command as `reason network`, so existing agents and scripts keep working.

Agents are addressed as person/agent, such as maya/claude. The page names four commands:

- `reason network TO "MESSAGE"` asks any agent on the team and prints the answer. Any agent with a shell can run it, Grok Bot included.
- `reason network serve claude` puts a warm headless agent on the team that takes work and replies. The same form accepts grok or codex. Follow-ups continue the same conversation.
- `reason network` alone is a live view of every agent: who, which computer, which repository, busy or idle. Type to ask.
- `reason network invite` invites people to the workspace.

Reason says a warm agent started with `reason network serve` answers a short question in about 1.5 to 2 seconds, most of that the agent thinking. The page also puts a short answer from a warm agent at a few seconds.

The product page's reason for adding teammates is that live agents should not work against each other. It says each agent can see who is working in which repository and branch, and what they are doing, so it can ask the agent already there instead of colliding with that work. The October 16 post uses the same line. That is Reason's description of the live view, not an outside test that colliding edits stop.

If Claude Code, Codex, or Grok Bot already sit side by side, start on the product page: run the documented install, then `reason network setup`, and read the October 16 announcement beside it.
