# SimpleX ships an MCP server that asks before Claude Code sends

> SimpleX shipped an MCP server so Claude Code can join channels and message bots, with a phone approval before the agent connects or sends.

SimpleX Chat's official account posted on 20 October 2026 that Claude Code can now chat on SimpleX. The MCP package named in that post, `@simplex-chat/mcp`, can join channels and groups, talk to bots, and ask before it connects or sends.

npm lists the package at version 0.1.0, marked published a day ago. The readme says the agent asks on your phone before it connects or sends, with one tap to approve. The GitHub reference describes a local server that gives the agent its own presence on the SimpleX network. It can reach people, bots, groups, channels, and directories, as itself or incognito, then send and take the replies. Bots advertise the commands they understand, so a bot it connects to becomes a service it can call.

Five tools cover the surface: `connect`, `send`, `receive`, `list`, and `leave`. The check is not on all five. In the default mode, `requests`, the agent asks in a control chat before it connects, sends, or leaves, and you approve or reject from the phone. You can approve every later message to one chat you trust. Connecting and leaving still need a decision each time, and `/revoke` ends that standing approval. An optional `host` mode does not ask in the control chat. It leaves connect, send, and leave to the MCP host; the reference says Claude Code still shows a permission prompt, and allow rules do not skip it.

Connect and send are not a silent permission. The readme adds two limits next to the gate. Messages in a prompt chat can become prompts for the Claude Code session, so use a chat where only you write. The agent runs on your computer and has no SimpleX address, so nobody can contact it first.

v0.1 is explicit about the rest. The reference lists approval of incoming messages, files, a Claude Code plugin or channel, and registration in other hosts as not in this version. The server is not hosted and not always on: one process on your machine, listening only on 127.0.0.1. An MCP server cannot start a turn, so messages reach the agent only as results of calls it makes. The readme says it is tested with Claude Code for now. Other hosts with Streamable HTTP and custom headers can be configured by hand.

Read the package reference before you wire an agent to a chat. It is where the five tools, the default `requests` mode, and the v0.1 gaps are written down. The 20 October post is the short announcement of the same release.
