# Uber rolls ChatGPT Work out to more than 30,000 employees

> Uber is rolling ChatGPT Work out to more than 30,000 employees after a 1,000-person pilot, with GPT-6.1 Sol as the default model.

Uber is making ChatGPT Work available to more than 30,000 employees, expanding a 1,000-person pilot into what OpenAI calls Uber’s first company-wide deployment of an agentic platform tailored for knowledge work.

OpenAI said on October 22, 2026 that the rollout was starting that day. ChatGPT Work is an agent inside ChatGPT Enterprise for complex, multi-step tasks and finished work. Availability is not adoption. The post covers access, approved integrations, and training. It does not report productivity gains or daily use. The companies said they plan to share adoption, use cases, and measurable outcomes as the rollout progresses.

## Connectors and the default model

ChatGPT Work connects to Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Slack. Employees can research information, prepare meeting briefs, create presentations, analyze data, and complete workflows across those applications. GPT-6.1 Sol is the default model inside ChatGPT Work for Uber, a choice OpenAI said balances frontier performance and cost efficiency. Teams will also have voice and image generation. Developers and software engineering teams will continue using Codex. Uber is backing the expansion with an internal AI skills library, approved integrations, and employee training for operations, finance, marketing, and product.

## What the pilot showed, and what is still unmeasured

TechCrunch reported the same day that Uber told it the entire global workforce — some 30,000 people — will now be using ChatGPT Work. That is stronger than OpenAI’s wording, which is availability to more than 30,000 employees. TechCrunch said the pilot was deployed across departments including finance, operations, and product. Sumanth Sukumar, Uber’s VP of engineering, told TechCrunch that some 80 percent of early adopters were non-engineers. They analyzed operational data, localized training materials for different markets and languages, and built personalized dashboards.

TechCrunch said Uber has not settled on exactly how employees will use the tool. “Our approach is to make powerful AI tools available across Uber while giving teams room to experiment,” Sukumar told TechCrunch. Uber did not disclose spending. It will track usage, the workflows people develop, and whether the tool helps them work more effectively, then use those outcomes to guide further deployment.

Uber CTO Praveen Neppalli Naga called the rollout an exciting step toward giving teams tools to innovate. OpenAI president and co-founder Greg Brockman framed bringing ChatGPT Work to tens of thousands of employees as expanded access to frontier models and agents.

The signal is the shape of access: a 1,000-person pilot opened to more than 30,000 employees, four named connectors, and GPT-6.1 Sol as the default.

Read OpenAI’s company post for the official scope of access, then TechCrunch for Sukumar’s account of the pilot and how Uber says it will judge use.
