Android Studio Rabbit 2 is stable, and the IDE can now host a coding agent you choose.
The Android Developers blog, from Android Dev Summit, says Rabbit 2 is stable today. Bring Your Own Agent lets you pick a preferred coding agent — Claude Agent, Codex, Antigravity, or any of more than 40 ACP-compliant agents — and run it directly in Android Studio so it can use the IDE’s full suite of developer tools.
On October 28, 2026, the @AndroidStudio account spelled out the protocol behind that host. The post says Android Studio now supports Bring Your Own Agent via the open Agent Client Protocol, that you can install 40-plus ACP-compatible agents directly in the IDE, and that you can pick preferred models. It tells developers to download Android Studio Rabbit 2.
Google’s stated reason is flexibility. The blog says new models and agents keep increasing, and that developers want to select the ones that suit the work. Rabbit 2 puts that choice directly in Android Studio.
Skills, plugins, and Android CLI
The same blog post pairs the host with Android-specific agent tooling.
It says there are more than 30 Android skills covering more than 20 areas, meant to give agents expertise for complex Android tasks. Named examples include permissions security, Glance widget layouts, and Compose performance optimizations.
Official plugins are narrower. The Android plugin for Google Antigravity has been updated with the latest Android CLI capabilities, and it adds deeper integrations so you can view Compose previews and interact with real Android devices from Antigravity. Google also launched official plugins for Claude Code and Codex by OpenAI.
Android CLI commands called out for agents include:
- Android device streaming, powered by Firebase, for remote tests on real devices, plus Compose previews that render without an Android Emulator or an APK deploy.
- Profiling that captures production-grade Perfetto system traces to debug cold-start latency, UI jank, and background wakeups.
- An analyze check of app bundles and libraries for quality signals such as obfuscation, optimization, and shrinking, using the same logic Google Play uses before upload.
Skills apply to agents broadly. The plugins named in the post are specific: updated Antigravity support, plus Claude Code and Codex by OpenAI. The blog’s agent list uses Claude Agent and Codex; the plugin names are Claude Code and Codex by OpenAI.
The summit announcement also covers agentic Android APIs, adaptive form factors, and XR. Those are separate from the IDE host. For day-to-day coding, the release to start with is stable Rabbit 2: an Agent Client Protocol host in Android Studio, with more than 40 compatible agents and official plugins for the agents Google called out.
