Cat Wu, who led product for Claude Code at Anthropic, is joining OpenAI to lead product management for Core Products.

She posted the news on X. "Some news: I'm joining OpenAI to lead product management for Core Products!" She wrote that she has "a lot of respect for OpenAI for showing the world that scaling works, for bringing AI to over a billion people, and for believing great products are core to the mission." The full post, as carried by The Next Web, continues: "I'm excited to work with @thsottiaux, an incredible PM team, and everyone across OpenAI." The Next Web identifies @thsottiaux as Thibault Sottiaux. Business Insider's OpenAI representative called him Tibo Sottiaux.

She framed the work as agents that leave the user in charge, not as a launch. "Together, we'll build agents that have your back and your team's, and keep you in control, so you get more time for the people and work you love." She added, "Lots to learn, and lots to build. Please keep your feedback coming!"

OpenAI confirmed the hire to Business Insider. An OpenAI representative said Wu will report to Tibo Sottiaux, working with Nick Turley on enterprise products and Ashley Alexander on consumer products. Anthropic declined to comment. Wu did not respond to Business Insider's request for comment. The Next Web reported that Thibault Sottiaux replied on X, "Welcome Cat. Stoked to be building together soon." The Next Web also reported that OpenAI president Greg Brockman welcomed her on X.

A personnel move, not a product release

The announcement does not ship a tool, change Claude Code, or set a public product plan. What is confirmed is a job change: the product lead for Claude Code is now set to lead product management for OpenAI Core Products.

She had already marked the exit. The Next Web reports that on Tuesday she wrote Friday had been her last day at Anthropic, and that the OpenAI post came the next day. In that note she thanked the teams behind Claude Code, Cowork, and Tag. She did not say why she was leaving. Business Insider reported that she wrote she had left last week.

The Next Web reports she joined Anthropic in August 2024 as a research product manager, in a March article on Anthropic's site that lists her as Head of Product for Claude Code, and that she joined Claude Code two years ago, when it was a small internal tool. Before Anthropic, Business Insider reports, she was a partner at Index Ventures. The Next Web adds earlier work as a product engineer at Scale AI and Dagster, then as a venture capitalist.

Read her X post for the wording, then Business Insider for OpenAI's confirmation and the reporting line. The Next Web is the second write-up of the same move.
