Claude Startups pauses the free year of Claude Team and $1,000 API credit offers
Anthropic paused the Claude Startups free year of Claude Team and the $1,000 API credit offers after a surge of applications. All applications are being re-reviewed; an already-claimed offer does not change, and some application statuses may change.

Claude is pausing the free year of Claude Team and the $1,000 API credit offers in the Claude Startups program. An offer already claimed does not change, and it can still be used in the account. Claude is re-reviewing all applications, which may change the status of some of them.
On October 9, 2026, the official Claude account said it had underestimated demand and needed to pause the Claude Team and $1,000 API credit offers. With hundreds of thousands of applicants, it said applications are being re-reviewed.
The same day, Sarah Wolf wrote that the first 48 hours brought 21 times the number of applications compared with the last five months the program had been live. She said they let way too many people in this time and would need to pause on giving out the Team offer.
The program FAQ states the same rule. Claude received hundreds of thousands of applications over the past few days and is over capacity on those two offers. The FAQ names them as a free year of Claude Team and $1,000 in API credits.
If the offer is already claimed, nothing changes. The re-review covers all applications and may change the status of some, which Claude says it regrets. Claude has not said how many statuses will change. It has not said whether the free year of Claude Team and the $1,000 API credit offers will return, or when.
Claude says it is reshaping the program so the initiative is of, by and for startup founders. The FAQ does not publish new acceptance criteria.
Existing members still have full access to the Startup Stack, Applied AI office hours, and events. The Stack is discounts and credits worth up to $45,000 from independent third-party companies, not from Anthropic, redeemed in the Claude Console. Office hours are 45-minute live sessions every other week. Monthly API credits on a Claude Max or Team plan are separate. The FAQ says those credits remain available in Console as usual. This pause does not cover them.
The program page still links to an application. Another answer says Claude aims to review every application within one week. That aim does not describe the outcome of the re-review.
Check the Claude Startups FAQ, then look in your account. If the offer is already claimed, keep using it. If an application is still open, wait for the re-review. On Claude Max or Team, monthly API credits are still in Console.
