Hermes Agent gets an official Meshy 3D plugin

Nous Research shipped an official Hermes plugin that calls Meshy’s MCP server to generate 3D models and preview models in Hermes Desktop chat.

Nous Research’s official plugin catalog now lists a Meshy plugin for Hermes Agent. On October 22, 2026, Nous Research posted that you can ask Hermes to make a treasure chest for Godot, or turn a photo of a mug into a model you can print, and that the job runs through Meshy’s MCP server. In Hermes Desktop, the post says, the models render in chat.

The plugin page describes a portable Agent Plugins v1 package in Hermes Official Plugins. It launches Meshy’s first-party MCP server as npx -y @meshy-ai/meshy-mcp-server@0.6.4 over stdio for every new session while the plugin is enabled. The docs say that package was published October 13, 2026, that @latest is deliberately not used, and that no mcp_servers edit in config.yaml is required. A bundled meshy-3d skill carries the server’s routing rules, including cost confirmation, because Hermes does not pass MCP server instructions to the model.

Install is hermes plugins install meshy, then hermes plugins enable meshy. It needs MESHY_API_KEY and Node.js 18+ with npx on PATH. In Hermes Desktop, set the key under Settings, Plugins, Meshy; the running server restarts with the new key. Without Desktop, hermes config set MESHY_API_KEY writes the profile .env. API keys need a Meshy Pro plan or above.

The catalog says every credit-spending call goes through Hermes’s approval prompt with an estimated cost, and a 200-credit limit per chat makes it ask again. Most Meshy tools spend 5–62 credits per call. The server is marked trust: untrusted, so Hermes asks before every write-capable call — creates, downloads, and cancels — with Allow once, Allow for this session, or Deny. Read-only tools run without a prompt. Unattended runs, including cron, hermes chat -q, and a gateway with no approver, cannot approve, so paid calls are refused.

On Hermes builds with MCP tool costs, the plugin declares each tool’s price and that 200-credit limit. The approval prompt then reads "Costs about 5–25 credits" plus what the chat has spent. Once a chat would pass the limit, Hermes asks again even if those prompts were skipped by a config.yaml override. Older Hermes builds ignore the declaration.

Desktop preview is opt-in. Turn the Desktop switch on under Capabilities, Plugins, and Hermes Desktop uses stock three.js for inline 3D cards, a download menu for formats already produced (no extra credits), a gallery with a "Made from" history, and a status-bar credit chip. Other clients show the card line as text. Meshy publishes the server only as a local stdio package and offers no hosted MCP endpoint.

Read the Meshy plugin page, then install it from the catalog and add a Pro-plan API key. Expect the approval prompt on the first paid call, and watch the 200-credit limit for that chat.
