Ohio State gets Gemini Enterprise research agents
Ohio State gains Gemini Enterprise research agents and DeepMind scientific tools through a new Google campus partnership.

On September 29, 2026, The Ohio State University and Google announced a strategic partnership that includes enterprise access to Google's AI research agents. As one of an initial cohort of leading R1 institutions, Ohio State will receive that access through Gemini Enterprise, which the releases say is meant to help researchers shorten discovery timelines by generating and testing scientific hypotheses. The releases describe campus access. They do not announce a new Gemini model.
Google's Columbus release and Ohio State's same-day post describe the same package. The initiative establishes an on-campus AI space in the Innovation District, including Google DeepMind collaborations, and provides Gemini Enterprise and Gemini Notebook access through Google for Education. Both call it one of the largest partnerships between Google Public Sector and any U.S. university, uniting Ohio State's research and academic programs with Google Cloud's AI-optimized tech stack and high-performance computing power.
Researchers tackling complex challenges will also have more than 200 AI models, AI-optimized supercomputing systems, and technology from Google DeepMind. Named access in the releases includes:
- AlphaFold
- Google Earth Engine
- Agentic AI such as AlphaEvolve
The releases say the hub's core research pillars include biomedical engineering, earth sciences, and the humanities. A separate component, Project SCARLET, is an AI-powered human performance platform custom-built in partnership with the Ohio State Athletics Performance Innovation Team. It uses predictive models, computer vision, and advanced analytics to optimize athletes' training, recovery, and health across all 36 sports.
Ohio State President Ravi V. Bellamkonda said the partnership "unites two powerhouses of innovation" and will "accelerate research across the enterprise" through the AI(X) Hub, while strengthening the university's AI Fluency initiative goals. Karen Dahut, CEO of Google Public Sector, said they are "putting unparalleled computing power and scientific models directly into the hands of Ohio State's world-class faculty and researchers," and called it "one of our largest and most comprehensive education partnerships to date."
The initiative provides Gemini Enterprise and Gemini Notebook access campuswide through Google for Education. Separately, the releases say select students, faculty, and staff will have access to Google Workspace for Education and Gemini Enterprise. Ohio State also plans a 24/7 virtual assistant powered by Google Cloud's AI for academic advising, registrar services, and career pathway planning, plus work on intelligent campus infrastructure and cybersecurity automation.
Neither release states when research-agent access begins, which researchers receive it, or how generating and testing hypotheses will be governed. Those details are unknown.
