OpenAI says Astra is fully rolled out in Codex and ChatGPT Work
OpenAI says Astra is fully live for paid users in Codex and ChatGPT Work. Plus still lacks it in regular Chat.

OpenAI now says GPT-6 Astra is fully live in the agent surfaces it named—not in every ChatGPT picker.
On September 8, 2026, the company account posted that Astra “is fully rolled out to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users in Codex and ChatGPT Work,” then told builders to “Go build!” That wording is the news. The post names Codex and ChatGPT Work. It does not put Astra in ordinary Chat for every paid plan.
Help Center pages still draw the split. Plus includes GPT-6 Astra in ChatGPT Work and Codex. GPT-6 Pro, powered by Astra, is listed for Chat on Pro $100, Pro $200, Business, and Enterprise. The usage guide is explicit: Plus includes Astra in Work and Codex, but not GPT-6 Pro in Chat. Having Astra in Work does not automatically include GPT-6 Pro in Chat, and Chat message limits sit apart from the shared Work and Codex pool.
Enterprise Chat access still depends on a workspace’s model-access permissions. The September 8 tweet does not grant that by itself.
To see Astra in Codex, you need Codex CLI 0.153.0 or newer. OpenAI also tells people to update the ChatGPT desktop app and to check for updates again even after an automatic prompt. Those same Help Center articles still say rollout can be gradual, that availability can differ among Chat, Work, and Codex, and that ChatGPT Work itself is still reaching eligible accounts.
Once Astra is on your account, it draws from the plan’s included Work and Codex allowance. Pro $100, Pro $200, and Business Premium seats can use their full existing allowance. Plus and Business Standard seats get limited Astra usage, with optional credits afterward. Credits pay for usage; they do not add model access. Astra can burn that allowance faster than GPT-5.6 Sol.
Treat the tweet as company-stated general availability for Codex and ChatGPT Work. Do not treat it as Astra on every ChatGPT surface.
If you are on Plus, open Work or Codex on an updated desktop app or CLI 0.153.0 or newer, then check Settings → Usage. If you need GPT-6 Pro in regular Chat, that still requires an eligible Pro, Business, or Enterprise plan—and, for Enterprise, workspace model permissions.
